Really there are 3 parts to this post.- The first, that utter destruction of foes may be impossible. (Owing to their decentralized structure, etc.)
- Co-option may therefore be the only solution.
- However, due to the nature of the beast -- i.e. the peculiarity of self-interest -- plenty of chaos may ensue during the realignments; in other words, not so gentle a process, at least at first.
Generally I don't like to consider that more negative proposition, but I think it's important to keep in mind.
